The Stroke Association produces a number of publications including patient leaflets, Stroke News (a quarterly magazine) and information for health professionals.

Services Provided

Services provided within Halton include:

  •  Information, Advice and Support Service -  this is a visiting service that gives practical information and emotional support to the families and carers of people who have had a stroke. It helps families prepare for the changes that inevitably happen because of a stroke, and make sure they are able to cope - both physically and emotionally. The service can also help people who live alone.

  • Communication Support Service -  Communication Support Coordinators and trained volunteers work with people who have had a stroke and their families on aspects of communication. The aim is to build up confidence and achieve the best possible level of recovery and independence in language skills. This might involve:
    • regular home visits by trained volunteers to work on communication skills;
    • weekly group meetings with other people who have had a stroke;
    • activities and events to help people socialise and gain confidence; and
    • carers’ groups to support families and carers
