The deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Roz Gladden, will officially open the store on Thursday this week and to celebrate the occasion Aldi will be handing out golden envelopes to the first 100 people in the queue, each containing a prize.

Customers will be in with the chance of winning a 32” full HD LED TV, a tablet PC, a smartphone and a range of bags of Aldi shopping. Hot food catering will also be available.

Aldi Norris Green store manager, Barry Williams, said: “The team is looking forward to welcoming customers to our new store in Norris Green and we would like to thank them for their patience throughout the development.

“There will be plenty of prizes up for grabs and we hope that customers enjoy the golden ticket experience, as well as the reduced ‘Specialbuys’ on offer.”

Aldi will also be donating a range of food and household products to the nearby Norris Green Youth Centre later this month.

The new training centre will create an ‘in-store’ environment for staff and apprentices to learn new roles and develop skills which includes a mock store.

It will provide training for up to 100 staff and apprentices each year for the Merseyside area.

George Brown, property director at Aldi, added: “Aldi is proud of its recruitment and training programme, which recognises talent and commitment, providing on average higher wages than those across the industry.

The programme will commence in September offering 10 individuals employment on a 12 month pre-apprenticeships programme. The programme is aimed as supporting Individuals who are, 16 and 17 years of age, who are 'Not in Employment, Education or Training' (NEET) and live in the Liverpool City Area and have achieved or likely to achieve grade D-F GCSE in Maths and English. The Programme has been designed to give individuals the opportunity to gain valuable skills and enhance their employability.

Individuals will attend City of Liverpool College on day release to improve their employability skills, Maths and English. They will also undertake a NVQ in Customer Services whilst on placement at the University.

The University is offering each successful individual a 12 month placements paid at £130 per week in areas such as Administration Support, General Laboratory Assistants, Customer Service Support, E-Learning Support, Stores Assistant, Clerical Support, Computer Network Assistance, Student Experience and Management and Research Support.

Commenting on the launch of the new programme, Steve Plant from the University of Liverpool HR department said: “In addition to the apprenticeships already offered at the University this is a great opportunity for young people hoping to get work experience and skills which will help them to progress into a career.”

University of Liverpool has a reputation for excellence in Widening Participation.
